Cephalosporin hemolysis

Hello Forum,

I would be grateful for your thoughts and experiences on a recent acute episode of hemolysis that was neither incompatibillity nor sepsis, and was eventually attributed to the fact that the infant had been receiving a third generation cephalosporin.

Cephalosporins have been incriminated in several case reports of drug induced hemolysis resulting sometimes in death. An immune-complex mechanism mediated hemolysis has often been the explanation forwarded. A positive direct antiglobulin test is frequently found.

Can you give us some more details of this case. Also can you please specify the cephalosporin.
