Securing CPAP Prongs

We are changing to Hudson prongs for CPAP delivery and will be following the Vermont Oxford technique of securing them to a knit cap using safety pins and elastic bands. Some staff members have concerns about using safety pins. This method has been used for several years and in many institutions, so I'm hoping that someone can respond with their experience.
Has anyone had any problems with infant injury using safety pins on the CPAP cap? Thanks.

Hi Susan! We do not have experience using the safety pins, but if they turn out to be a problem consider using the cap with the velco strap & foam holders by INCA/ Ackrad Labs. Both hospitals I have worked in have used this product with good success.

Hi Susan, for years we are using the Inca Prongs that have a security system for the tubes, in my opinion very comfortable for the baby we dont have any problems, and we cover the nose with Duoderm extra thin and make the holes for the cpap, by this way we prevent malfunction of the cpap and protect the nose. Hope this help.

Thank you both for your replies. We're moving away from the Inca system; I'm glad to hear that you have such success with this this. We're looking into a cap with velcro.

I have been using the Hudson system since 99 with pins and no injuries so far. Regards

We use Hudson prongs with 2-4 Posey wrapped around the head to secure.
