we had 2 newborns prentong with culture proven staph sepsis.
they had colour change to black pigmentation while on drugs.
any strain which causes colour change?

Could it be due to the drug used ? Which antibiotic was used in these cases ?

both the babies received inj. amikacin and piperacillin &tazobactum.
they have received platelet transfusions also

Looks like the infant developed a pustular rash.

How about this condition?

i agree to the pustular rash on the foot. But the black colour change on the face, nape of neck are out of blue. i will search again and come back to you with the latest pictures next week when they come back fo review from the primary care practitioner.

I saw these slate-like coloration in neonatal chikungunya infection
Was there an epidemic of chikungunya at this period in your setting ?

Was any lotion applied locally ? Any herbal medicines ?

we have chikungunya infection as epidemic right now with dengue .
no lotion was applied .

It seems that the hyperpigmentation interest periorificial sites and lobes of the ears.
You can screen for CHIKV infection (perhaps IgM if too late for RT-PCR), specially if these newborns have been febrile...
Maternal-fetal transmission has been described with febrile mothers during the peripartum period with onset of disease in neonates after some days.
