I guess the key is to good airway management including maintaining an optimal lung volume (cpap or PEEP).

Chest physiotherapy needs further studies according to a Cochrane review (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18646156).

Prevention is the key. Early surfactant administration and lung recruitment through either HFOV or CPAP.
