We now opened the doors to the Virtual Library, containing neonatology abstracts from papers in scientific journals. The idea behind this section is to present a quick over-view of the scientific press in neonatology. Click here to go to the Virtual Library! (http://www.99nicu.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=119)
The thread/discussion with each separate abstract is automatically created, by using the RSS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rss) feeds from each respective journal. Therefore they can be formatted in different ways, and long titles may not always be displayed in the full length, and abstracts can also be incomplete.
Every abstract includes a link to the journal, where the complete abstracts is usually published for free. 99nicu does not provide articles in full text access.
So far, our library only includes abstratcs from the "Big 4" - i.e. JAMA, NEJM, BMJ and Lancet - and the pediatric journals ADC, Acta Paediatrica and Pediatrics. If this service is being popular and rated as useful, we may add more journals in the future.
We estimate that about 50 new abstracts will be presented every month.
The abstracts are added to our main database. When you perform searches of the web site, for example for threads about RDS, abstracts about RDS from the Virtual Library will also be included. Similarly, if you click on New Posts, the abstracts will appear there as new discussions.
The abstract are not transmitted in the RSS feed from 99nicu (http://www.99nicu.org/forum/showthread.php?t=71), so you will need to browse the Virtual Library when you have logged in.
Please give feedback about the Virtual Library below!
