Leading article - February 2008
The Leading articles for February 2007 are extremely preterm birth and the interplay between outcomes and ethics.

The original article is a hospital-based cohort study including all infants between <26 weeks of gestation admitted to a single UK neonatal centre between 1981 and 2000. The take home message is that mortality has improved, without an increase in neurodevelopmental morbidity.

Professor Avroy A Fanaroff has written an interesting commentary on the UK findings. Recommended reading!

The articles are published in collaboration with the journal Acta Paediatrica (http://www.blackwellpublishing.com/journal.asp?ref=0803-5253).
