99nicu is an Internet community for professionals in neonatal medicine, originally set up by neonatal staff at the Karolinska university hospital, Stockholm, Sweden. Today, 99nicu is moderated by an international group of neonatologists.
A membership is required for access to all features. Membership is free and you can register as a member here. 99nicu has more than 4200 members (Dec 2011). Although the majority of members are neonatologists and nurses from the US and Europe, 99nicu has members from all continents of the world and all categories of neonatal staff are represented.
About 50-75 new members register every month. The web site has an increasing number of visitors since the opening of 99nicu in May 2006. The graphs below show the quarterly number of unique visitors, visits and pageviews since Q2 2006 to Q2 2011. On average during Q1 2011, the 99nicu web site had 350 unique visitors, making 1000 visits and 6,200 pageviews per day. The 99nicu publishing platform, including the domain 99nicu.org, software licenses and the web hosting account, is owned and administered by Stefan Johansson through the company Laterna Medica (Swedish VAT-nr SE660620751901). Laterna Medica funds costs for development and maintenance of the web site.
Laterna Medica formally owns the web site and controls the publishing platform, but it has no copyright of the contents of the 99nicu knowledge database (see the Disclaimers page for copyright information). Due to increasing costs related to web hosting and technical maintenance, it is neccessary with external funding. 99nicu can be supported through PayPal donations or by educational grants.
